Excerpt:
...“Fog,” he muttered hopelessly.
The hazed feeling of being lost—unjust despair—clouded what he looked at. The fog covered the whole town, even his sense of belonging. He didn’t know where to stand or who he was among all the people around him. The thickness of the fog brought the temperature down; a cold chill pierced through the thin shirt he wore. He pulled his hands to his chest to keep warm, rubbing them on the sides of his arms, then made his way back to a line that formed next to a taxi bus.
The fog overpowered his sight of the pyramid, leaving him just enough to see. But Titus, with a dread look—disturbed by backstabbing friends—could look no further. He heard a hum reverberate inside the pyramid. That hum was like a subdued storm that brought nightmares back into his mind. Nightmares he tried to forget, but couldn’t—the torches and the burning shack.
He felt a tap on his shoulder. With a sigh of relief, he looked to his side. A man dressed in a corporate suit stood there, then the people in the queue behind him. They moaned aggressively about how much time he had wasted for everyone.
The taxi driver rushed past and into the van. “My bro, don’t waste other people’s time. The taxi will leave you.”
What secrets does the pyramid conceal? What nightmares haunt Titus, and what lies within the hum of the pyramid?
